East Coast of South America - Europe service adjustments Maersk Line is making service adjustments in the trade between the East Coast of South America and Europe. Introducing the River Plate Express We are pleased to announce that we have entered a slot charter agreement with Hamburg Süd on their River Plate Express service. This product, which covers main destinations on the East Coast of South America and in Europe, will provide our customers with a reliable service that includes adequate time in the schedule for operational contingency and ensures sufficient space during peak seasons. The port rotation of the River Plate Express is as follows: Buenos Aires (Argentina), Montevideo (Uruguay), Rio Grande (Brazil), Santos (Brazil), Sepetiba (Brazil), Rotterdam (the Netherlands), Tilbury (UK), Hamburg (Germany), Antwerp (Belgium), Le Havre (France), Sepetiba (Brazil), and Santos (Brazil). The first vessel on the River Plate Express service will be the Monte Cervantes departing Rotterdam on 20 June 2008. This vessel will also perform the first northbound sailing from Buenos Aires on 12 July 2008. Itajai Express closing down A result of the upcoming changes will be the termination of our Itajai Express service. The vessels on this string have not been fully utilised and the closure is as an effort to match the actual requirements of the market and allow for an acceptable return on investments in this trade. Consequently, all cargo from Brazil to the Mediterranean will in future be loaded on our L-class and SAMEX services via Tangiers. By using this entry point to the Mediterranean, we will ensure an improved productivity and provide a consistent and reliable transhipment to our dedicated vessel network covering the Mediterranean ports. The last southbound sailing will be the Maersk Jamestown expected to depart Algeciras on 20 June 2008. This vessel will also cover the last northbound sailing leaving Rio de Janeiro on 6 July 2008. L-class & SAMEX with optimised schedules The new River Plate Express will compliment the L-class and SAMEX services, which we offer in the South America to Europe trade. To provide our customers with a prime product during peak seasons and effectively cater to the fluctuations in reefer volumes, we will run the L-class and SAMEX services with seasonal deployment as from July this year. Therefore, the schedules for first and second half of the year will differ, offering port coverage in line with our customers’ varying requirements. The new schedules for the L-class and SAMEX will allow for slow steaming hence providing a slightly longer transit time in some corridors, but limiting the environmental impact through reduced emissions. Customer benefits through an optimised network Maersk Line will continue to offer a stable and reliable service to our customers - with the foundation being a sound return on investments. Through an open dialogue, we will continue to engage our customers in determining the optimal terms of our services concerning cost, scope, and quality. More information about the schedule changes in the South America – Europe trade can be found on maerskline.com. (From Maersk Line)
