Each Container Terminal at JN Port Crosses One Lakh TEU Mark
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, Navi Mumbai handled 3.26 lakhs TEUs of containers during the month of July 2007. The container handling at Port's own Terminal (JNPCT) was 1.05 lakhs TEUs, at Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT) was 1.19 lakhs TEUs and at Gateway Terminals India (P) Ltd was 1.01 lakhs TEUs. For the first time, all the terminals have crossed one lakh TEU mark at JNPT. The cumulative container traffic handled at JN Port during the current financial year(April 2007 to July 2007) is12.68 lakhs TEUs which is about 23% higher than the container traffic handled during the same period last year. The Port is expected to maintain the growth of above 20% during the financial year 2007-08. At JN Port a total of 534 ICD trains were handled during the month of July 2007 which is an all time record since inception of the Port. Out of these, 497 trains were provided by CONCOR and 37 trains were provided by the private rail operators. The ICD traffic at JN Port constitutes about 30% of total container traffic. The dwell time for import containers delivered from JNPCT to various CFSs was 1.07 days against free period of 3 days. The dwell time for import containers delivered from JNPCT to various ICD destinations by ICD trains was 3.49 days against free period of 7 days provided by the Port. April 3, 2007 JN Port Crosses 3 Million TEUs Mark in Container Handling Total traffic 44.82 million tonnes, overall traffic growth 18.45% in FY 2006-07. The annual performance results of JN Port were announced during port customers function held on April 3,2007 at JNPT’s Administration Building, Sheva. The function was attended by port customers along with media personnel. Briefing the media personnel on annual performance of the Port, Shri SS Hussain, Chairman, JNPT, said that JN Port handled 44.82 million tonnes of cargo during the financial year 2006-07 as against 37.84 million tonnes of cargo handled during the last financial year 2005-06. The Port crossed 3 million TEUs mark in container handling during the financial year 2006-07. The container traffic handled during the year 2006-07 was 3.30 million TEUs against 2.67 million TEUs handled during the last year 2005-06. Thus growth in container traffic was 23.69% and overall growth in total traffic was 18.45%. Out of total 3.30 million TEUs of containers traffic handled at JN Port during the year, the container traffic handled at JN Port Container Terminal (JNPCT) was 1.31 million TEUs, at Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT) was 1.36 million TEUs and Gateway Terminals India Container Terminal (GTICT) was 0.63 million TEUs. On the dispatch side, the average dwell time for import containers destined for CFSs was 0.93 day during the year 2006-07 against 1.56 days during the year 2005-06. This is against free period of 3 days provided by the Port under Scale of Rates. The average dwell time period for ICD containers was 4.17 days during the year 2006-07 against free period of 15 days provided under the Scale of Rates. The operating income of the Port during the financial year 2006-07 was Rs 780.25 crores (provisional) against Rs 670.32 crores during the last financial year. The operating surplus stood at Rs 482.12 crores (provisional) against Rs 399.99 crores during the last financial year. During the function, 12 port customers and associated agencies were commended by the Chairman for their outstanding performance/contribution during the financial year 2006 -07 in the following fields 1. Handling of highest container traffic at JN Port (JNPCT+NSICT+GTICT) by a shipping line (5,12,645 TEUs): M/s Maersk Line. 2. Handling of highest container traffic at JNP Container Terminal (JNPCT) by a shipping line (1,74,810 TEUs): M/s CMA-CGM Line . 3. Highest delivery of import containers from JNPCT to a CFS (71,871 TEUs): M/s. Gateway Distripark Ltd. 4. Maximum throughput brought at Shallow Water Berths by a company: M/s Utra -Tech Cement Ltd : 6,18,377 tonnes. 5. Maximum liquid cargo brought to JN Port by a consignee: M/s. Reliance Industries Ltd: 10,81,278 tonnes. 6. Maximum liquid cargo handled by a shipping agent: M/s Atlantic Shipping Co. Ltd: 12,81,394 tonnes. 7. Maximum numbers of vessels brought at JN Port by a shipping line (JNPCT+NSICT+GTICT+SWB+BPCL): M/s Maersk Line: 210 vessels. 8. Highest volume of liquid cargo handled by a tank farm operators: M/s Indian Oil Tanking Ltd : 11,37,960 tonnes. 9. A special felicitation for handling ICD traffic of 8,19,316 TEUs (24.84% of total container traffic) at JN Port: M/s CONCOR. 10. A special felicitation for handling of 13,59,125 TEUs of containers by M/s NSICT. 11. A special felicitation for handling of 6,34,134 TEUs of containers by M/s GTIPL. 12. A special felicitation for handling liquid bulk cargo of 32,43,358 tonnes by M/s BPCL. The Port has following expansion plans on the cards: 1. Deepening and Widening of Harbour Channel: The channel will be dredged to accommodate vessels upto a draught of 14 metres with 6000 TEUs capacity using tidal window in the first phase. The projected expenditure in first phase is Rs 800 crores. The work for first phase is likely to start by mid 2007 with completion period of 27 months. In the second phase the channel will be dredged to accommodate vessels with 15 metres draught (6000 TEUs capacity) throughout and vessels up-to 15 metres draught (9000 TEUs capacity) using tidal window. 2. Development of Fourth Container Terminal and Marine Chemical Terminal: When fully developed, the capacity of the Terminal would be 4.4 million TEUs of containers and 15 million tonnes of liquid cargo at an estimated cost of Rs 5000 crores. The Port has already appointed a consultant for deciding the modalities for execution of the project. 3. The Port has placed order for acquisition of three super post panamax Rail Mounted Quay Cranes (RMQCs) at the total cost of Rs 96 crores. The new RMQCs would be commissioned by June 2008. These three RMQCs would be positioned at JNPCT-main container berth and from main container berth two old RMQCs will be shifted to Shallow Water Berth. Thus Shallow Water Berth will have mechanized operations wef June 2008. 4. Port has acquired Radio Data Terminal (RDT) for on line updation of containers. The system is under commissioning and will be operational by April 2007.
